How do you play Block Stack?
Seven kinds of four square blocks fall one at a time. Turn and slide them to fill a row with no gaps and the row clears for points. When the stack reaches the top and a new block has no room, the game ends.
The board is 10 wide and 20 tall. You get half a second to slide or turn a block after it lands, and a dotted ghost shows where it will drop.
How does scoring work?
Clearing more rows at once scores far more. Row points are multiplied by your level.
| Rows at once | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 × level |
| 2 | 300 × level |
| 3 | 500 × level |
| 4 | 800 × level (1.5× if back to back) |
| Clearing rows in a row | plus 50 × combo × level |
| Soft and hard drop | 1 and 2 points per cell |
What are the modes?
- Endless: every 10 rows the level goes up and blocks fall faster. Go for a high score.
- 40 lines: a sprint timed to 40 rows. The speed stays the same.
What does hold do?
It stores the current block in the hold box to use later, swapping with whatever is there. You can hold once per block.
Tips
- Keep one column open. Build flat elsewhere and wait for the long bar to clear four rows at once.
- Avoid holes. A gap under a block keeps that row from clearing until everything above is gone.
- Read the next three. Leave room for the shapes that are coming.
- Hold the long bar. Save it for when your well is ready.
