How do you play Color Flood?
Start from the top left cell and pick colors one at a time to turn the entire board into a single color before you run out of moves. It follows the well known Flood It style rules.
Your area begins as the top left cell plus any matching cells connected to it. When you pick a color, your whole area changes to it and every touching cell of that color joins in, rippling outward. Your area only ever grows.
How are the board and move limit set?
| Setting | Options | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Board size | 10×10 · 14×14 · 18×18 | Bigger boards take more moves. |
| Colors | 4 · 6 · 8 | More colors means smaller merges and a harder puzzle. |
| Target (3 stars) | Per board | The move count our solver found when the board was made. |
| Move limit | Target + spare moves | From 2 to 6 spare moves depending on size and colors. |
- Three stars: fill the board in the target or fewer. Beating the solver is possible.
- Two or one star: a little over the target earns two, anything within the limit earns one.
- Out of moves: the round ends and you can retry the very same board.
How do 2 Players and vs Computer work?
It is a land grab: two players start in opposite corners and whoever owns more cells wins. Player 1 starts top left, Player 2 or the computer starts bottom right, and you take turns picking colors.
You cannot pick your own current color or your opponent's current color, so grabbing the color they need is a real way to block them. The game ends as soon as one side owns more than half the board.
Tips for fewer moves
- Push toward the middle first. A path into the center touches many color patches at once.
- Do not always take the biggest bite. A color that opens a large patch next turn is often better.
- Wipe out colors one by one. Once a color is gone from outside your area, you never need it again.
- Use a hint when stuck. The solver flashes the color button it would pick next.
If two colors look alike, the ◆ Symbols button adds a different small symbol to each color (dot, triangle, ring, plus and more). Your fewest moves for every size and color count are saved in this browser.
