How do you play Moon Landing?
Your lander falls under gravity. Fire the engine to slow down, tilt to drift sideways, and touch down slowly and upright on a flat landing pad to succeed. It is a fresh take by ormgames on the lunar lander style of game, which began as a text game in 1969 and became an arcade hit in 1979.
The engine pushes out of the bottom of the lander, so tilting moves you the other way. Thrusting while upright only slows your fall. Every descent has a fixed tank of fuel, so spend it wisely.
What counts as a safe landing?
| Check | Limit |
|---|---|
| Where | Both legs on the same pad |
| Vertical speed | 3.0 m/s or less |
| Horizontal speed | 2.0 m/s or less |
| Tilt | 10 degrees or less |
Miss any of these, touch rough ground or hit the hull first and the lander goes bonk and rolls away. The readouts in the top left panel turn green when they are within limits and red when they are not.
How do pad multipliers and scoring work?
Every pad shows a multiplier from ×2 to ×5, and higher multipliers mean narrower pads. Each landing scores the multiplier × (100 + a soft touchdown bonus + a leftover fuel bonus).
- New terrain every stage: hills and valleys are generated fresh with 2 to 4 pads, always including one ×2 pad.
- Rising difficulty: stage 1 uses 1.6 m/s², close to real lunar gravity, and it climbs each stage up to double. Crosswinds start on stage 2.
- Three landers: a crash replays the same stage on new terrain. Lose all three and the game ends.
- Zoom camera: the view closes in automatically near the ground so you can see your legs and the pad.
Tips for a soft landing
- Kill your sideways speed first. Tilt against your drift while you are still high and burn.
- Pick a nearby pad. A close ×2 uses less fuel than a far ×5 and keeps your run going.
- Burn in short taps. Holding thrust sends you back up and drains the tank.
- Stay upright for the last few meters. When the speed tag next to the lander is green, you can let it settle.
On phones the dial tilts as far as you push it, and the lander stands upright again when you let go. Your best score and furthest stage are saved in this browser.
