How do you play SameGame?

Tap any group of two or more same colored blocks that touch up, down, left or right to clear it, and try to empty the board while racking up points. These are the classic SameGame rules.

The board starts 15 columns wide and 10 rows tall with 150 blocks. On a tall phone screen it stands up as 10 columns by 15 rows, and blocks always fall toward the bottom of the screen.

How do the blocks move?

How is the score worked out?

Clearing n blocks in one move scores (n-2)² points, and leaving no blocks at all adds a 1000 point bonus.

Because points grow with the square, one big group beats many small ones by a wide margin. Fewer colors make big groups easier, so 3 colors is the gentle mode and 5 colors is the tough one.

How do you get a high score?

  1. Save your most common color for last. Clearing the others first pushes it together into one huge group.
  2. Pairs score nothing. Use them to open things up and earn your points from big groups.
  3. Work from the bottom. Blocks that fall join new neighbors, and groups grow.
  4. Watch for lonely blocks. A single leftover block costs you the 1000 point bonus.
  5. Read the preview. Before you clear, the top bar shows how many blocks will go and how many points you get.

Normal games give you one undo. Practice mode allows unlimited undo but does not save best scores. Best scores for 3, 4 and 5 colors are kept in this browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is SameGame free?

Yes. Play it free right on this page with no download or sign up, on computers, phones and tablets.

Is this the classic SameGame?

Yes. Clearing a group makes the blocks above fall and empty columns slide left, and each move scores (n-2)² just like classic SameGame. The block art and sounds are made by ormgames.

Why can't I clear a single block?

A group needs at least two blocks of the same color touching up, down, left or right. Blocks that only touch diagonally are not connected.

Can every board be cleared?

No. Some layouts cannot be emptied. With 3 colors a full clear happens fairly often, but with 5 colors it is very rare.

How many undos do I get?

One per game in normal play. Turn on practice mode on the start screen for unlimited undo. Best scores are not saved in practice mode.

Why is the board a different shape on my phone?

On a tall screen the board stands up as 10 columns by 15 rows. It still has 150 blocks, blocks still fall toward the bottom of the screen and empty columns still slide left.

What are the daily puzzle and challenge links?

The daily puzzle is one 4 color tall board that everyone gets on the same day, and it changes at midnight Korea time. When you finish, the Daily button shows a check mark and your score. A challenge link is the link you send with Share result. A friend who opens it gets exactly the same board and can try to beat your score. Nothing is sent to a server, and your records stay in this browser.
