How do you play Box Pusher?
Walk the worker around the warehouse and push every wooden crate onto a pink target mark to clear the level. It is a single player puzzle with the same rules as Sokoban (Japanese for "warehouse keeper"), which first came out in Japan in the early 1980s.
There are 63 levels, starting with a single crate warm up and building to rooms with four crates in each other's way. Every level was made by ormgames and checked with a computer solver, so all of them can be beaten.
What are the rules?
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Walking | The worker steps up, down, left or right, one tile at a time. No diagonals. |
| Pushing | Walk into a crate to push it one tile. It will not move if a wall or another crate is behind it. |
| No pulling | You can never pull a crate, and you can only push one at a time. |
| Winning | The level is cleared when every crate sits on a mark. Crates on a mark get a green check. |
| Scoring | Moves counts every step and pushes counts every crate push. Your fewest moves for each level is kept. |
What if a crate gets stuck?
Press Undo to step back one move at a time, as far as you want. Restart puts the whole level back the way it began. Undo is unlimited and costs nothing.
A crate pushed into a corner, where two walls meet, can never be moved again unless that corner is a target. A crate against a wall can only slide along that wall.
Tips for solving levels
- Stay out of corners. A cornered crate is stuck for good.
- Plan the last crate first. Fill the deepest targets early so later crates still have a way in.
- Do not line two crates up against a wall. Side by side, they often lock each other in place.
- Let taps do the walking. Tap a tile and the worker takes the shortest path there without touching a crate.
- Check the fewest pushes on the win screen. Match it and you get a star. Nobody can do it in fewer.
