How do you play Tower Defense?

Jellies march along a fixed road. Build towers on the empty tiles beside it, pop the jellies, and keep at least one of your 20 lives through wave 30 to win. Each jelly that reaches the cake costs one life, and a King jelly takes five.

Popping jellies earns in game coins that you spend on new towers and upgrades. There is no real money and nothing to buy. Pick from five maps and three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal and Hard.

What towers can you build?

TowerCostWhat it doesBest against
Squirt50Fires quick, light water shots at one jelly. Range 2.5 tilesRegular, speedy and winged jellies
Candy Cannon85Lobs a cotton candy ball that splashes every jelly near where it landsTight groups
Frost70Slows every jelly in range and deals a little damageSpeedy jellies and the King
Zapper120Lightning that jumps from jelly to jelly, hitting 3 to 5 of themLong lines and tough jellies

Each tower can be upgraded twice, up to level 3, gaining damage and range each time. Selling returns 70% of everything you spent on it. Tap a tower to see its range as a dotted circle.

What kinds of jellies are there?

Why call the next wave early?

Once a wave has fully spawned, the next one starts 14 seconds later. Calling it early with the Next button pays bonus coins for every second you skip. The waves will overlap, so only do it when your defense has room to spare.

Tips

  1. Build on the inside of corners. The more road inside a tower's range circle, the longer it keeps firing.
  2. Put a Frost tower in front of your damage. Slowed jellies stay in range of everything else for longer.
  3. Tough jellies need big hits. Mix in Candy Cannons and Zappers instead of only adding Squirts.
  4. Upgrade before wave 10. The first King jelly has a lot of health and level 1 towers struggle.
  5. Fast forward only when things are calm. If it gets tight, pause and plan your next tower.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tower Defense free?

Yes. Play it free right on this page with no download or sign up. The coins in the game are just points you earn by popping jellies, and nothing costs real money.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. On a tall phone screen the board turns upright. Tap an empty tile to open the tower picker, and tap a tower to upgrade or sell it.

How many waves are there and how do I win?

There are 30 waves. Stop every jelly in wave 30 before your 20 lives run out and you win.

Do winged jellies skip the road?

No. Winged jellies follow the same road, but because they hover they only take half the slow from Frost towers.

How much do I get back when I sell a tower?

You get back 70% of everything you paid for it, upgrades included.

What do fast forward and Next wave do?

Fast forward runs the game at double speed. Next wave skips the waiting time and sends the next jellies right away, with bonus coins for the seconds you skipped.

Are my records saved?
