What is Space Rocks?

A space shooter where you turn and thrust a little clay rocket and blast every drifting rock to clear the wave. It plays like the 1979 arcade classic Asteroids, rebuilt with a bright pastel sky and candy colored rocks.

The screen wraps around. Anything that leaves the right edge, whether your ship, a rock or a shot, comes back on the left, and the same goes for top and bottom. Your ship drifts with momentum, so it keeps gliding after you let go of thrust.

What are the prankster comet and hyperspace?

The comet is a rainbow tailed troublemaker that zigzags after your ship, and hyperspace is an emergency jump to a random spot on the screen. The comet shows up a little while into each wave, chases you for about 10 seconds and then fizzles out. Hit it for 500 points. Hyperspace can land you anywhere, and after a jump you have to wait 2.5 seconds before the next one.

Tips for a high score

  1. Stay near the middle and rotate to shoot. The more you fly around, the harder momentum is to control.
  2. Do not crack every big rock at once. A swarm of small rocks is hard to dodge. Finish off one family before starting the next.
  3. Watch the far edges. Rocks wrapping in from the opposite side are the real danger, and your shots wrap too, so you can hit them early.
  4. Always go for the comet. It is worth five small rocks, and since it comes to you, just turn to face it and fire.
  5. Save hyperspace for emergencies. If you land on a rock, you crash right away.

Frequently asked questions

Is Space Rocks free?

Yes. It is free to play right on this page with no sign up. Use the keyboard on a computer and the on screen buttons on phones and tablets.

Is it the same as Asteroids?

It plays the same way as the 1979 arcade game Asteroids: big rocks break into medium and small ones and the screen edges wrap around. The art, the sounds and the prankster comet are new and made by ormgames.

How many lives do I get?

You start with 3 and earn an extra life every 10,000 points. The game ends when you run out.

How many points is each rock worth?

Big rocks are worth 20, medium rocks 50, small rocks 100 and the prankster comet 500. Smaller targets are harder to hit, so they pay more.

Is hyperspace safe?

Not always. It drops your ship at a random spot, so if a rock is there you crash right away. After a jump you must wait 2.5 seconds before the next one.

How do I play on a phone?

Push the round pad on the left toward the direction you want to face, and push it all the way out to thrust that way. Hold the big button on the right to keep firing, and tap the small button next to it to warp.

Is my best score saved?

Yes. Your best score and the wave you reached are saved in this browser and shown on the start screen.
