What kind of game is Poop Dodge?
You control a kid with an umbrella on a rooftop and move only left and right to avoid poop dropping from the sky. The time you survive without a single hit is your score. It is a remake of the classic early 2000s flash game that almost everyone played at least once, redrawn for today's screens.
The poop is round and glossy, like a soft serve swirl, so nothing looks gross. When it lands it splats with a little puff of dust. The game starts with roughly one drop per second, then the drops come more often and fall faster. Around 90 seconds in, the difficulty reaches its peak and the sky is full. The sky itself drifts from morning to noon, sunset and night, and at night the windows of the distant buildings light up.
How is the score calculated?
Your score is the seconds you survive before getting hit, plus gold poop bonuses, counted to one decimal place. Survive 37.4 seconds and catch two gold poops and you finish with 43.4 seconds.
| Falling item | Looks like | When it hits you |
|---|---|---|
| Poop | Brown soft serve swirl | Game over. With the golden umbrella you bounce it away once |
| Gold poop | Sparkling gold | +3 seconds |
| Rainbow poop | Six rainbow colours | Everything slows down for 3 seconds while the clock keeps running |
| Golden umbrella | A small umbrella swaying down slowly | Your umbrella turns gold and blocks one poop |
Your best time is saved in this browser and shown on the title screen and under the score panel during play. The moment you pass it mid game, the screen flashes to let you know.
What ranks are there?
At the end you get one of six ranks based on your time: under 10 seconds is Direct hit day, under 20 is Shaky beginner, under 40 is Poop dodger, under 60 is Poop radar, under 90 is Dodge master, and 90 seconds or more is The sky steps aside.
Alongside the rank you see how many poops you dodged, how many gold ones you caught and how many hits the golden umbrella blocked. Share result turns it all into a picture card. While you play, cheers appear at 10, 30 and 60 seconds and every 30 seconds after that.
How do I survive longer?
- Watch the umbrella, not the kid. The canopy is what gets hit. Step aside by one umbrella width and the narrow body is almost never touched.
- Stay near the middle. Pressed against an edge you can only escape one way, so two overlapping drops leave you no exit.
- Look at the lowest poop only. Fresh drops at the top are still far away. Handle the lowest one, then the next, one at a time.
- Save the rainbow for a crisis. Three seconds of slow motion matters most late in the run when the sky is full. The clock keeps running, so it is free score too.
- Never chase the golden umbrella through traffic. Getting hit on the way there wastes it. Go only when the path is clear.
- Pick one control method. Mixing keyboard and mouse is confusing because the last input wins. Keyboard is precise, mouse is fast.
How does it differ from the classic flash game?
The rule is the same, but the art, the controls and the bonuses are new. The original was a bare bones game where a stick figure ran left and right under falling poop and the survival timer was the whole score.
- Art: the kid in a yellow raincoat with an umbrella, the rooftop ledge, drifting clouds and the morning to night sky are all drawn in code. The poop is round and shiny.
- Bonuses: gold poop, rainbow poop and the golden umbrella occasionally mix in.
- Controls: besides the keyboard, the kid follows your mouse, and on phones walks to wherever you tap.
- Fairness: drops are spaced so that two never land in the same spot back to back, and the fall time is the same whether your screen is tall or short.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Tap anywhere and the kid walks there; drag and the kid follows your finger. On a portrait screen the board grows taller, so you see the drops earlier.
No sign up or download is needed. It runs in the browser on computers, tablets and phones. Sound can be muted with the button at the top right and the setting is remembered.
Controls
- Keyboard: ← → arrows or A D to move. Space or Enter to start or play again.
- Mouse: move the pointer over the screen and the kid walks to it. No clicking needed.
- Phone and tablet: tap a spot to walk there, hold and drag to follow your finger.
- Buttons: 🔊 at the top right toggles sound, ⌂ returns to the title screen.
Your best time and the sound setting stay in this browser and are never sent to a server. Clearing browser data clears the best time as well.
