How do you play Anagram Scramble?
You get a word whose letters are shuffled, and you put the letter blocks back in the right order on the wooden rack. If the felt shows A H M under Food and 3 letters, tap H, A, M to spell HAM. The topic and the letter count above the rack are your first clues.
This is the classic anagram, also called word scramble or unscramble. In the English version every block is one letter, the Korean version uses whole syllables and the Japanese version uses hiragana. Tap a block and it hops into the next empty well, tap a block in the rack and it goes back to the felt. When only one well is left the last block drops in by itself, and the word is checked the moment the rack is full. A correct word turns gold from left to right with a sparkle, a wrong one shakes the rack and sends the blocks home.
What game modes are there?
The title screen offers a 90 second rush, topic sets of 10 words and the daily words.
| Mode | Rules | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| 90 second rush | All six topics mixed. Solve as many words as you can in 90 seconds. Words start at 3 or 4 letters and grow to 5 and 6 letters as you keep solving | Word length, combo |
| Topic set | Pick Animals, Food, Countries & cities, Jobs, Things or Sports and solve 10 words from short to long | Length, combo, speed |
| Daily words | Ten words chosen by date, in the same order and the same shuffle for everyone. A new set starts at midnight Korea time | Length, combo, speed |
In the rush the clock pauses while the gold animation plays, so the celebration never costs you time. Under 10 seconds the timer blinks red and ticks every second.
How is the score calculated?
Each word is worth 30 points for 3 letters, 50 for 4, 80 for 5 and 120 for 6, multiplied by your combo.
- Combo: solve words in a row without a miss or a skip and the multiplier rises 10% per word from the second one, up to double. Each step pops a big COMBO label and raises the chime by one note.
- Speed: in topic sets and daily words, solving within 8 seconds adds 20 points and within 15 seconds adds 10.
- Hint: every hint cuts the base points of that word by 30%.
- Skip: shows the answer and moves on. The word scores nothing and the combo resets.
The result screen gives one of six ranks: Letter apprentice, Word tidier, Letter builder, Word detective, Letter wizard and Walking dictionary. In the rush, Walking dictionary starts at 1,600 points.
How does the hint work?
The hint locks the first letter of the answer into the first well as a mint colored block. Press it again to lock the second letter and so on from the front. The last letter is always yours to find.
Locked blocks stay put when you tap them and when an answer is wrong. Knowing just the first letter narrows the choices a lot, so one hint and then solving the rest yourself is usually the best deal for your score.
Can I type the answer?
Yes. Type the word and each matching block flies into the rack. The number keys 1 to 6 pick blocks on the felt by the small numbers on their corners.
- English: press A to Z.
- Japanese: type romaji. し accepts shi or si, つ accepts tsu or tu, and ん is nn or n followed by a consonant.
- Korean: type the two set jamo keys. It works by key position, so it even works while the input method is in English mode.
How many words are there?
The English version has 432 words of 3 to 6 letters in six topics. The Korean version has 423 and the Japanese version 364 hiragana words, each in its own dictionary.
| Topic | Words (English) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Animals | 83 | WALRUS, TOUCAN, GECKO |
| Food | 66 | WAFFLE, NOODLE, CURRY |
| Countries & cities | 81 | BHUTAN, PRAGUE, LAGOS |
| Jobs | 62 | BARBER, JOCKEY, TUTOR |
| Things | 68 | KETTLE, ZIPPER, LADDER |
| Sports | 72 | SLALOM, WICKET, KAYAK |
Every shuffle is checked so it never accidentally spells another word. On the other hand, if you build a different dictionary word from the same letters it still counts, like LEMON and MELON.
Any tips for solving faster?
- Read the topic and length first. Sports and 4 letters already leaves only a handful of candidates.
- Look for common endings. ER, ING style endings and double letters are quick anchors.
- Shuffle when stuck. Staring at one order makes it stick. Press Space and a fresh layout often shows the word.
- Protect your combo. One hint keeps the streak alive, a wild guess that fails breaks it.
- Use the keyboard. On a computer typing is far faster than the mouse.
Controls
- Phone and mouse: tap a block on the felt to place it, tap a block in the rack to send it back. Drag a block onto a well to put it exactly there and swap with what was in it.
- Keyboard: type letters, 1 to 6 to pick blocks, / hint, Space shuffle, Tab skip, Backspace undo one, Esc clear the rack. Enter starts a game on the title and result screens.
- Top right buttons: the speaker toggles sound effects, the house returns to the title screen.
Best scores per mode, today's daily result, the sound setting and the last topic are stored only in this browser and never sent to a server. The wooden blocks, the felt and every click and chime are drawn and synthesized in code, so nothing is downloaded.
