How does Pocket Pet work?
You receive one egg, give it a name, and raise the little friend that hatches by feeding it, playing with it, washing it and putting it to sleep until it grows up. Like the keychain pets of the 1990s, time really passes: your pet gets hungry and bored even while the page is closed.
Five bars at the top show food, mood, clean, energy and health, and eight care buttons sit at the bottom. When a bar turns yellow or red it is time to fill it. The pet also shows what it wants in a speech bubble above its head: a bowl means feed me, bubbles mean bath time, a pill means it is sick.
How does the pet grow?
It grows from egg to baby, child and adult, and the moment it becomes an adult it takes one of four forms depending on how you cared for it. Each growth plays a glowing transformation.
| Stage | When | Looks |
|---|---|---|
| Egg | First 30 seconds, faster if you tap it | Wobbles, cracks, hatches |
| Baby | Right after hatching | Small with big eyes, no limbs |
| Child | 20 minutes old | Grows limbs and gets bigger |
| Adult | 2 hours old | Form depends on care, unlocks the shelf |
The four adult forms: steady care with no illness gives Sparkle with a little crown, more than 8 snacks gives rosy cheeked Chubby, more than 6 mini games gives Rascal with a tuft and a fang, and anything else gives droopy eared Dozy. None of them is a bad ending, and the stats screen tells you why your pet turned out that way.
What are the five stats and how do I fill them?
Food comes from meals and snacks, mood from games and praise, clean from baths and scooping, energy from sleeping with the lights off, and health recovers by itself when the other four are kept up. Below 35 health the pet gets sick and stays sick until you give medicine.
| Action | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Meal (rice, veggies, meat) | Food +20 to +35 | Each species has a favorite that also lifts mood. Refused above 92 food |
| Snack | Food +10, mood +15 | More than 4 within 10 minutes costs a little health |
| Play | Mood +12, +30 on a win | Costs 10 energy. Not possible below 10 energy |
| Bath | Clean 100 | The kitty dislikes baths and loses a little mood |
| Lights off | Sleeps and restores energy | Food and mood drop slowly while asleep. Waking it below 40 energy makes it grumpy |
| Medicine | Cures illness, health +45 | A healthy pet shakes its head |
| Praise | Mood +12 | Fully works once every 45 seconds |
| Scoop | Removes poop, clean +10 | Poop left around keeps draining clean and health |
What happens while I am away?
The time you left is saved, and when you return everything that happened meanwhile (up to 12 hours) is applied at once: hunger, mood, clean, energy, poop and illness. If you turned the lights off before leaving, the pet sleeps and restores energy the whole time.
Time away has a floor, though. No stat drops below 8 and health never falls below 25, so forgetting your pet for a whole day never kills it. A yellow notice shows how long you were gone and what changed.
How do I bring back a pet that walked out?
If food and mood both stay under 10 for 20 minutes, the pet opens the door and goes for a walk. The praise button turns into a call button, and pressing it three times brings it home with hearts. It returns with 40 food and 50 mood.
Walking out is a reminder rather than a punishment. The count appears in stats but there is no other penalty, and it is not considered when the adult form is chosen. Just refill food and mood after it comes back.
What are the three mini games?
The play button lets you pick Catch, Rock Paper Scissors or Follow Me. Winning gives 30 mood, losing still gives 12, and three wins unlock the toy box.
- Catch: balls drop into one of three lanes. Tap the lane or use the arrow keys to move the pet and catch at least 4 of 6 balls.
- Rock Paper Scissors: first to 2 wins against your pet. Ties are replayed, and if nothing is decided within 5 rounds the higher score wins. Keys 1, 2 and 3 work too.
- Follow Me: four colored pads light up in order and you tap them back. Clear sequences of 3, 4 and 5 to win; one mistake ends the game.
How do I decorate the room?
The chair button at the top right opens a list of seven furniture pieces. Anything you have unlocked can be placed or removed freely, and the unlock condition is written next to each locked item.
The rug needs 3 meals, the plant 2 baths, the picture 3 games, the lamp an age of 1 hour, the toy box 3 game wins, the curtains an age of 1 day and the shelf an adult pet. The window follows the real clock with sun and clouds by day and moon and stars at night, and turning the lights off darkens the room and lights the lamp.
How do I raise a Sparkle adult?
- Refill before a bar turns yellow. The longer any stat stays under 20, the lower your care grade and the more health you lose until the pet falls ill.
- Find the favorite food. Bunnies love veggies, kitties love meat and dinos love rice, and the favorite lifts mood as well. The menu marks it with a heart.
- Keep snacks to a few a day. More than 8 makes a Chubby. Chubby is cute too, but for Sparkle fill up with meals instead.
- Turn the lights off before you leave. While asleep, food and mood drop at half speed and energy refills, which makes long absences safe.
- Scoop right away. Two or more piles keep draining health, and no amount of furniture keeps the room clean.
Controls
- Phone and mouse: the eight buttons at the bottom do the caring, and tapping the pet says hi. Tapping the egg hatches it faster. The two small buttons at the top right open stats and decorating.
- Keyboard: 1 to 8 in button order, S stats, D decorate, Space tap the pet, Esc close. Catch uses the arrow keys or 1, 2, 3, Rock Paper Scissors uses 1, 2, 3, and Follow Me uses 1, 2, 3, 4.
Progress is stored only in this browser and never sent to a server, so opening the game on another device starts a new egg. There are no notifications or alarms, so drop by whenever you think of your pet.
