What kind of game is Jump Quest?
A side scrolling platformer where a small explorer in a wide brimmed hat runs and jumps across a scrolling map and enters the door at the right end to reach the next level. You cross platforms, stomp enemies and pick up coins and gems through four worlds: meadow, cave, snow and volcano.
There are 20 levels, five per world. The fifth level of each world ends with a big boss that drops a key after three to five stomps, and that key opens the door to the next world. Every map was drawn by hand, one character per tile, so each level has its own terrain and gadgets.
How does the jump work?
Tap the jump button for a low hop, hold it for a high jump. You can still jump for a split second after leaving a ledge, and a jump pressed just before landing fires the moment you touch down.
Those two allowances mean a late press at the edge of a platform does not drop you, and a jump on landing never gets swallowed. Sliding down a wall slows your fall a little, which gives you time to adjust in narrow shafts. The feather lets you jump once more in mid air, and the shield bubble absorbs one hit.
What platforms and gadgets are there?
Ground, thin platforms, moving platforms, crumbling platforms, springs, spikes, lava, water and ice, and each new world adds another gadget to the mix.
| Gadget | What it does |
|---|---|
| Thin platform | Jump up through it from below and land on top |
| Moving platform | Travels back and forth sideways or up and down. Ride it |
| Crumbling platform | Collapses about half a second after you step on it, then returns |
| Spring | Launches you nearly twice as high as a normal jump |
| Spikes and lava | One touch and you fall. Some spikes hang from the ceiling |
| Water | You swim. Press jump to rise, press it at the surface to leap out, press down to dive |
| Ice | Slippery. Stopping and turning take longer |
| Flag | Checkpoint. After a fall you restart here |
| Key and door | In levels with a key, the door stays locked until you pick it up |
How do I beat the enemies?
Snails and bats disappear when you land on them from above, and each one gives a coin. Spikeys are covered in thorns, so jump over them instead.
Touching an enemy from the side or below knocks you down and sends you back to the last flag. Falls are counted on the result screen but never cost you stars. A boss pauses briefly and speeds up every time you stomp its head, and drops the key when its health runs out. Keep your distance while it leaps and drop onto its head the moment it lands.
How do I earn stars?
Collect all three hidden gems in a level for three stars. Gems sit in places that take a small detour: high thin platforms, above springs, under water.
| Gems collected | Stars |
|---|---|
| 0 | Door only. The next level still unlocks |
| 1 | ★ |
| 2 | ★★ |
| 3 | ★★★ |
The level select screen shows the stars for each level and your total, and the result screen shows your time next to your best time for that level. The goal is 60 stars.
How do the four worlds differ?
The meadow teaches the basics, the cave adds water and keys, the snow brings ice and spikeys, and the volcano is moving platforms over lava. Later worlds stack the gadgets together.
- Meadow (1 to 5): learn to jump with snails and thin platforms, then moving platforms and a crumbling bridge before the King Snail.
- Cave (6 to 10): ceiling spikes and bats, swimming across an underground lake, a far away key for a locked door, vertical platforms and the Rock Spider.
- Snow (11 to 15): slippery ice paths, the feather for a double jump, Thorn Valley, a bridge that collapses like an avalanche and the Snow Golem.
- Volcano (16 to 20): pillars between lava, platforms crossing the flames, bat swarms and the shield, the last key and the Lava Turtle.
Tips for Jump Quest
- Jump while running. A running jump goes much farther than a standing one. A five tile gap needs a full sprint and a jump from the very edge.
- Set the height with your finger. Tap for low ledges, hold all the way for three tile walls. Under ceiling spikes, keep it short.
- Stomps bounce you higher. Hold jump as you land on an enemy and the bounce carries you to high platforms.
- Never stop on a crumbling bridge. Tiles fall in the order you step on them, so standing still drops you.
- A boss is open right after it lands. Stay back while it leaps, then drop onto its head the moment it touches down.
Controls
- Keyboard: arrow keys or A and D to move, Z, Space, Up or W to jump. Hold for a higher jump. Down or S dives in water, R restarts at the last flag, Esc opens level select.
- Phone: push the round stick at the bottom left sideways to move and up to jump. The big button at the bottom right also jumps, higher the longer you hold it. In portrait the camera zooms in.
- Mouse: press and drag sideways to move, drag up or tap to jump.
Unlocked levels, stars and best times stay in this browser and are never sent to a server. Sound can be muted with the button at the top right, and the game pauses when you leave the tab.
