How do you play TriPeaks Solitaire?
Twenty eight cards are dealt as three overlapping peaks. Move any face up card that is exactly one rank higher or lower than the waste card, and clear every card from all three peaks to win.
Only the ten cards on the bottom row start face up. A card higher up turns over by itself once both cards overlapping it from the row below are gone. Of the other 24 cards, one starts the waste pile and 23 make up the stock.
Which cards can you play?
Only the rank matters. Suit and color are ignored, so any face up card one rank away from the waste card can be played.
| Waste card | You can play |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6 or 8 |
| 10 | 9 or J |
| Q | J or K |
| K | Q (and A with wrapping on) |
| A | 2 (and K with wrapping on) |
- Stock: when nothing fits, tap the stock to put its next card on the waste. There is no redeal.
- King to Ace wraps: with this on, an Ace can follow a King and a King can follow an Ace. Toggle it on the start screen. It is on by default.
- End: you win when all 28 peak cards are gone. The game ends when the stock is empty and no card fits.
How does scoring work?
The longer your run without turning the stock, the more each card is worth. The nth card in a run scores n × 10, so the first card is 10 points and the fifth is 50.
- Combo: turning a stock card resets the run.
- Peak bonus: taking the top card of a peak adds 150 points for each of the first two peaks.
- Clearing: clearing all three peaks adds 500 points plus 20 for every card still in the stock.
What is the difference between winnable and random deals?
Winnable deals are checked by a solver that plays them through to the end, so there is always a way to win. Random deals are shuffled freely and some cannot be won.
We ran 1,000 random deals through a solver that can see the face down cards. With King to Ace wrapping on, at least 94.7% were winnable, and with it off at least 67.9%. A real game is harder, since you cannot see the face down cards. The daily deal is a winnable deal with wrapping on, the same for everyone each day.
Tips
- Play the card that turns something over. When two cards of the same rank fit, pick the one that frees a face down card.
- Look for long runs. Going up and down, like 7, 8, 9, 8, 7, keeps the combo growing.
- Save the stock. There are only 23 cards and no redeal, so turning the stock while a card still fits wastes a chance.
- Work the peaks evenly. Digging into one peak can leave the lower cards of the others stranded.
- Use undo and hints. The hint makes the solver's next move blink.
Undo has no limit and still works from the result screen after you get stuck. Best scores for each deal type and wrap setting are saved in this browser. There is no money or betting of any kind.
