How does Untangle Lines work?
A set of dots sits on the board, joined by lines that cross each other in a mess. Drag the dots to new spots until no line crosses any other line, and the board is solved. You never cut or draw lines, you only move the dots.
A line that crosses another one sizzles in red, while a clear line glows calmly in blue. The ✕ number at the top is the current crossing count, recounted the moment you let a dot go. When it reaches zero the whole graph turns gold, a chime rings and the board is done. This is the puzzle often called planarity or untangle.
What are the rules and levels?
There is only one rule: the board is solved when zero lines cross, wherever the dots end up. There are 30 levels, starting with 6 dots and growing to 30, and solving a level unlocks the next one.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Levels | Level 1 has 6 dots and each level adds one, reaching 30 dots at level 25. Levels 26 to 30 keep 30 dots but add more lines |
| Daily puzzle | One 16 dot board a day, and everyone who opens it on the same day gets the same board |
| Endless | Starts at 8 dots and adds a dot after every solved board until you press Stop. Your record is the number of boards solved |
| Moves | Every pick up and drop is one move. Undo and hints count as a move too |
| Best records | Each level keeps your fastest time and the moves it took, stored in this browser |
Every board is generated fresh. The dots are spread out evenly, a triangulation turns them into a planar graph, lines are trimmed without breaking the connection, and then the dot positions are shuffled. The arrangement before shuffling is one valid answer, so every board can be solved.
How do I solve untangle puzzles faster?
- Settle the outer ring first. Put the dots with the most lines in a rough circle near the edge and the rest will find room inside.
- Move the dot with the most red lines first. If one dot is caught in three or four crossings, pulling it out drops the ✕ count all at once.
- Leave the lightly connected dots for last. A dot with only two lines fits almost anywhere, so send it to an empty spot at the end.
- Look for triangles. Three dots joined to each other are best moved together while keeping their shape.
- Watch the count while dragging. Line colors update as you drag, so release the dot where the ✕ number drops.
How do hints and undo work?
Press Hint and the dot caught in the most crossings glides halfway toward its place, with a dotted yellow circle marking where it belongs for a moment. Undo takes back the last move and can go back up to 200 steps.
- You may use as many hints as you like, but each one adds a move and lowers the rank shown on the result screen.
- The spot a hint points at is the arrangement used to build the board. Other arrangements also reach zero crossings, so you do not have to follow it.
- Undo also counts as one move, so simply dragging a misplaced dot again costs the same.
What is the daily puzzle?
A new 16 dot board appears every day, and everyone who opens it on the same day gets the same one. Your time stays on the title screen, and Share result turns your time and moves into a card to compare with friends.
The date rolls over at midnight Korean time. Finishing the daily board also marks your attendance on the ormgames daily page.
How is Endless mode different?
It starts with an 8 dot board and, every time you solve one, a new board with one more dot follows at once. Dots grow up to 30, and pressing Stop shows how many boards you solved and how long it took.
The record is the most boards solved in one run. Nothing pauses between boards, so it suits a long relaxed session.
Why is every board solvable?
Because each board is built as a crossing free layout (a planar graph) first and only then has its dot positions shuffled. Returning to the original layout always gives zero crossings.
A planar graph with n dots can have at most 3n-6 lines. This game uses about 60 lines for 30 dots, well under that limit, and it trims the longest lines of the Delaunay triangulation first so the solved shape looks even. The answer is not unique, though: any layout with no crossings counts.
Controls
- Phone and tablet: drag dots with a finger. You can drag two dots with two fingers at the same time. Undo and Hint sit at the bottom, plus Stop in Endless mode.
- Mouse: press a dot and drag it. The dot you hold grows and casts a shadow.
- Keyboard: Tab cycles through dots (Shift+Tab goes backward), arrow keys or WASD move the selected dot, Shift makes bigger steps. Z undo, H hint.
Records stay in this browser only and are never sent to a server. Sound can be turned off with the speaker button at the top right, and that setting is remembered.
